Marine Mammal Sightings Map (20K)

Note: Gray Whales are not plotted on the chart. Numerous California Sea Lions, Harbor Seals, and Southern Sea Otters are seen on all trips, and also are not plotted.

As winter approaches, baleen whales should start drifting southward, and sightings of both Blue and Humpback Whales may increase a bit during November. Sightings of Humpback Whales as of 11/2 are very good with lots of last minute feeding on surface fish schools (Pacific Sardine).

Dolphin schools should start forming larger aggregations and may be seen throughout the winter.

The dense formations of jellyfish swarms, particularly Chrysora sp. (or Sea Nettle) have attracted a number of Leatherback Sea Turtles.

The sightings plotted above were compiled by Richard Ternullo for the period 10/1/99 to 10/31/99.
