About the Photographers
The photos in this gallery were taken by
- Nancy Black, who spends over 250 days a year at sea.
- Daniel Bianchetta, photographer from Big Sur who is
a frequent passenger on our trips. Daniel usually comes out with
us about 4 times a week year-round and has generously shared photos
he has taken on our trips.
- Tory Kallman is also a frequent passenger especially
during killer whale "season" as well as periodically throughout
the year. Tory travels from San Francisco where he lives and photography
has become a major hobby of his.
Daniel and Tory have been out with us on hundreds of trips and
have provided some of their best images. As I (Nancy) often work
as captain and/or marine biologist (guide), I am not able to take
as many photos as I would like and therefore am very grateful for
our frequent passengers for sharing their photos while out with
me. I thank these people and will be including more of their images
of other whale and dolphin species in the coming months, as well
as photos I have received from other passengers.
- François Gohier is a professional photographer
who occasionally accompanies us on our trips. He lives in San
Diego, and when here he often comes out with us on daily trips
for several weeks. François travels worldwide for his photography
and is one of the top marine photographers in the world.
- Lori Mazzuca is a biologist and photographer and has
come out a few times,. She was lucky enough to be on one of our
trips when we witnessed a killer whale tossing a dolphin out of
the water.
We all use high resolution Canon cameras with telephoto lens from
28 mm to 500 mm. In most cases these images were cropped. All of
these photos were taken on whale watch trips; none were taken during
dedicated research trips.
None of these photos can be used without permission from the photographer
and Nancy Black.
